Amaryl Information

Amaryl belongs to the class of drugs called sulfonylureas. This drug is used to control blood sugar levels.

Amaryl Indications

With diet and exercise, this product can be a good medicine to treat Type 2 Diabetes. If required, it can be used together with Insulin or metformin (Glucophage). Other than those illnesses mentioned it can also be used for other purposes.

Amaryl Warnings

If you have any of the following, consult your doctor first before you take Amaryl:

• Kidney disease
• Liver disease
• Thyroid disease
• Type 1 Diabetes
• Serious infection, illness, or injury
• In need of surgery

If you have any of the following cases, you might not be allowed to take Amaryl or you might need a dosage adjustment or special monitoring during the treatment. Patients who are 65 years of age or older may experience a stronger physical reaction to this product so it is advised to lower their dosage.

Amaryl belongs to the FDA pregnancy category C, which means that this product might be harmful to an unborn baby. Talk to your doctor first before you take this product if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. It is also advised that you consult your doctor first before you take you take Amaryl if you are breast-feeding.

Amaryl Intake Guidelines

Take Amaryl exactly as you doctor tells you to. If you did not fully understand the instructions, do not hesitate to ask your doctor, pharmacist or nurse to clarify it further.

Amaryl Dosage

It is advised to take each dose of Amaryl with a full glass of water. Amaryl is usually taken once a day with the first main meal. Remember not to change the dose of Amaryl medication if you were not advised to do so by your doctor.

Amaryl Overdose

These are some of the symptoms of an Amaryl overdose:

• Hunger
• Nausea
• Anxiety
• Cold sweats
• Weakness
• Drowsiness
• Unconsciousness
• Coma

If you experience the conditions listed above, seek emergency medical attention.

Amaryl Missed Dose

If you remember a missed dose, take the medicine immediately unless it time for the subsequent dose. In this case, leave out the missed dose and continue on to the normal dose. Remember not to take a double dose of this product.

Amaryl Side Effects

Seek emergency medical attention if you experience any allergic reactions to this product. The symptoms of side effects are as follows:

• Difficulty in breathing
• Closing of throat
• Swelling of lips
• Hives

Low blood sugar may result from too much intake of Amaryl, delaying or missing meals, exercising more than usual, experience illness that includes vomiting and diarrhoea, as well as the intake of other medicines. The symptoms of Hypoglycemia or low blood sugar include:

• Headache
• Shaking
• Cold sweats
• Pale or cool ski
• Anxiety
• Difficulty concentrating

Increased blood sugar may be the result of eating more than usual, exercising less than usual, taking other medications or the effect of illness. The symptoms of Hyperglycemia or high blood sugar include:

• Increased thirst
• Increased hunger
• Increasing urination

Amaryl Drug Reactions

There are drugs that can affect the usefulness of Amaryl and the condition of the body. Inform your doctor if you are taking aspirin or other saliculate such as:

• Magnesium/choline salicylate (Trilisate), salsalate (Disalcid, others), choline salicylate (Arthropan), magnesium salicylate (Magan), or bismuth subsalicylate (Pepto-Bismol)
• A nonsteriodal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) like ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil, Nuprin, others), ketoprofen (Orudis, Orudis KT, Oruvail), diclofenac (Voltaren, Cataflam), etodolac (Lodine),Indomethacin (Indocin), nabumetone (Relafen), oxaprozin (Daypro), and naproxen (Anaprox, Naprosyn, Aleve)
• A sulfa-based drug like sulfamethoxazole-trimethoprim (Bactrim, Septra), sulfisoxazole (Gantrisin), or Sulfasalazine (Azulfidine)
• A monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) like isocarboxazid (Marplan), tranylcypromine (Parnate), or phenelzine (Nardil)
• A beta-blocker like propranolol (Inderal), atenolol (Tenormin), acebutolol (Sectral), metoprolol (Lopressor) and others
• A diuretic (water pill) like hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ, Hydrodiuril), chlorothiazide (Diuril) and others
• A steroid medicine like prednisone (Deltasone, Orasone, others), methylprednisolone (Medrol, others), prednisolone (Prelone, Pediapred, others) and others
• A phenothiazine like chlorpromazine (Thorazine), fluphenazine (Prolixin, Permitil), prochlorperazine (Compazine), promethazine (Phenergan), and others
• phenytoin (Dilantin)
• Isoniazid (Nydrazid); rifampin (Rifadin, Rifamate)
• Over-the-counter cough, cold, allergy, or weight loss medications
